JMBLYA Presents: Future

future

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve been caught up in the Hendrix storm at least once.

Legally named Nayvadius Wilburn, Future, AKA Future Hendrix, AKA Super Future has shot to mega-stardom in the last five years. Currently, the rapper’s name is synonymous with whatever is trending at the moment. In 2015 alone, he put out three mixtapes and a studio album. He was also featured on nine billboard hits from other artists including Drake, Travis Scott and Rick Ross. You can’t go out these days without hearing at least three of his songs in one night. He’s dropped his own line of emojis that are superbly tailored to his lifestyle and legacy. He released EVOL, his fourth studio album, in February, making it his seventh full-length release in the past 16 months. He’s been with some of the baddest women in the game, brought four kids into the world, and it looks like this guy hasn’t even gotten winded yet.

Beyond the auto-tune and perfect Metro-Boomin’ production, Hendrix speaks on a struggle that some of his crowds can relate to. Climbing out of Kirkwood, a neighborhood in Atlanta, Future became more than a rapper, but a media mogul. On some of his most popular tracks, Future raps about using drugs to fight his demons, and the demons that money has created. As a teen he took a gunshot wound to the hand and in 2006 Future was arrested. It’s not uncommon for hip-hop artists to go from nothing to something, but Future has set the bar even higher for those looking to break into the game.

Future’s music career began when he worked with his cousin Rico Wade, who encouraged him to hone his writing skills and work towards being a rapper. Future calls Rico the “mastermind” of his sound. Hendrix started out as a songwriter, his big break coming when he co-wrote the hit “Racks” for YC in 2011. That same year, Drake joined him for a remix to “Tony Montana,” which propelled Future’s name into mainstream music. Since then, his infamous work ethic has resulted in a total of four studio albums and thirteen mixtapes so far, with the “Beast Mode 2” mixtape set for release in May of 2016. His mixtape 56 Nights was inspired by DJ Esco’s 56-night stay in a Dubai jail for possession of an illegal substance. DJ Esco’s powerful account of the experience ties in with the message on “March Madness.” The hit is one Future’s most well-known, with the social undertones of the song touching on the plight that African Americans face from the authorities. While he flaunts his money and rich tastes, he makes sure to stay connected to his home base and the people who support him the most.

The Future Hive is looking forward to JMBLYA in May to see Hendrix perform with a stacked line up including Kehlani, Rae Sremmurd, and Kevin Gates. Get your tickets soon to keep Boomin’ on your side, cause we all know what happens when Young Metro don’t trust you. Listen to his latest mixtape “Purple Reign” below and catch “EVOL” on iTunes.

Future Previews New Music on Snapchat

Future

In this day and age, it’s not at all uncommon for artists to use social media to instantly share anything from their concerts to their pets to their deep late night thoughts with their fans. Snapchat is becoming a more popular medium because of its what’s-happening-now vibe and the fact that stories disappear after 24 hours so fans really have to be on their game if they want to catch their favorite artists’ every moment. Future took this idea and ran with it by sharing new music today via the popular app. Could this mean a new album soon? The great thing about the Internet is even though these snaps technically disappear within 24 hours, the real MVPs always find a way to save them. Listen to Future’s new snippets in the clips below.

Future *might* just play this new music when he headlines this year’s JMBLYA alongside a killer lineup: Kehlani, Rae Sremmurd, Kevin Gates, Jazz Cartier, Post Malone and more. This may just be the best JMBLYA yet, so don’t miss out. Get tickets while you still can at the links below.

Lil Bibby – Can’t Trust A Soul

bibby
As the release of his debut album approaches, Chi-town’s Lil Bibby has dropped a new track for the wait. “Can’t Trust A Soul” is this trap artist’s reminder that he won’t be fooled in this game. While these types of tracks are pretty standard, Lil Bibby serves up his rhymes with rawness and grittyness that has yet to be matched. Bibby spits with “oomph” over the Almighty-Derick Produced track. “Can’t Trust A Soul” will be featured on his debut album FC3: The Epilogue, you can listen below.

PRhyme – Wishin 2 (Feat. Black Thought)

prhyme
We now have been blessed with a second version to PRhyme’s “Wishin”, which originally featured Common. Many don’t know that “Wishin” was initially intended for Black Thought of The Legendary Roots. Black Thought was unable to record at the time due to the death of good friend. Today, Black Thought flexes his lyrical skill and flow on the same track. “Wishin II” will be featured on the deluxe release of PRhyme‘s self-titled album. You can listen to “Wishin II” below.

Bilal ft Big K.R.I.T. – “Pleasure Toy”

bilal-in-another-life1With the collaborative work In Another Life  set to release on June 30th, Bilal continues to remind us why he’s been relevant for so long. His hands have been in the works of many legends from Common to Slum Village. He helped Kendrick with To Pimp A Butterfly and Kendrick lent his hand on “Money Over Love.” His sound on “Satellites” is at once transcendent and piercing to the soul. Now he’s shown another side to his versatility with his recent release with Big K.R.I.T. The seduction of “Pleasure Toy” is completely funky. The cheesy 80s keyboard strokes stroke a pleasantly different cord in the mind. K.R.I.T.’s verse takes the appeal to a whole new level.

Kehlani & Mr. Carmack – “All In”

1433954936_85768f16d53d8ec11b1c1730a3c8255cKehlani popped in the studio with Mr. Carmack and created a zesty number that’s equal parts whimsical and solid. Instead of the commonplace love song, though, her ethereal vocals speak on total respect and commitment to her other half. The song serves as an anthem for the powerhouse couple that’s taking over the world one hustle at a time. As the latest installment to the #songsfromscratch series by Adidas and Your’s Truly, it’s a reminder that different corners of the cosmos can come together to make some explosive fire.
