Macklemore and Ryan Lewis stirred up a lot of controversy last month with “White Privilege II,” but even in the face of all the criticism he stayed his ground. Last night, Macklemore took another stand on “The Late Show,” performing the song with ardent emotion. He stepped back to welcome two spoken word performers, Nikkita Oliver and Danez Smith, and Jamila Woods closed out the song. Check out the powerful rendition below.
Macklemore paired up with Leon Bridges at the American Music Awards to perform “Kevin,” a song about the troublesome world of pharmaceuticals. Dedicated to his friend of the same name who over-dosed on meds, the king of the thrift shop touches on the dangers of prescriptions. Using his music as his method, Macklemore continues his efforts to raise awareness to the subject. Leon Bridges’ soulful sound adds a deep feel to the plea: “put down the pen and look in my eyes.” Check in to the track below and check out of a medically induced haze.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will be in Austin on the 13th of January, and in Houston on the 16th of January.
