Major Lazer – “Run Up” [Ft. Nicki Minaj and Partynextdoor]

After months of hype, Major Lazer has finally released the collaboration with PartyNextDoor and Nicki Minaj titled “Run Up.” The song definitely plays on Diplo’s like for the dancehall sound and is a certified banger. According to Complex,  “Run Up” is expected to be on Major Lazer’s upcoming fourth studio album, Music Is the Weapon.”

And while visiting Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show last summer,  Diplo let us know some of the artists’ who might be featured on the album.

“Definitely we have Usher on it. [“Lean On” collaborator] MØ’s back on songs,” he said. “We have a song with Sam Hunt which is very unusual, but I love him. Travis Scott. I don’t even know; I have to go back…Sia is on a couple ideas, but one of the records might be her record. She’s definitely background vocals on a song.”

Childish Gambino – …Awaken, My Love! [Album]

gambino

Oh yes, it’s here my friends. Childish Gambino has finally dropped his highly anticipated …Awaken, My Love!

…Awaken, My Love! is unlike anything out right now. It’s unique. We get a mixture of funk, soul, and R&B – with literally no rapping, which is surprisingly ok. Gambino has taken a 360 turn on his music style, and has successfully resurrected a forgotten genre.

…Awaken, My Love! will have you feeling several types of ways. Each song tells a different story. “Have Some Love” puts you at a family reunion BBQ, bonding with the loved ones. “Zombies” puts you in a scene straight outta Stranger Things. “Redbone” will take you back to being a youngin’ in your grandpa’s living room, jamming classic vinyl.  “California” will take you to an island in the middle of nowhere, sippin’ on a piña colada.

Childish Gambino is a man of many, many talents and continues to amaze us left and right. Peep …Awaken, My Love! for yourself below:

Childish Gambino – “Redbone”

gambino

Alright, Gambino is (truly) a mastermind. In light of his upcoming album, …Awaken, My Love!, he dropped the single “Redbone” and it is just as mindblowing-ly unique as “Me and Your Mama“.

“Redbone” samples a sped-up version of Jaco Pasourius‘ “Portrait Of Tracy”, from all the way back in 1976. Gambino doesn’t rap on the track (again) but the vocals that he does give us kind of remind me of a young, more modern, Barry White.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Gambino describes his upcoming album, …Awaken, My Love!, as being influenced by the music that he grew up on:

“I remember listening to songs my dad would play—albums by the Isleys or Funkadelic—and not understanding the feeling I was feeling. I remember hearing a Funkadelic scream and being like, ‘Wow, that’s sexual and it’s scary.’ Not having a name for that, though; just having a feeling. That’s what made it great.” – Donald Glover

Steve Aoki is an icon among electro-house artists. He is best known for his unique live sets where he covers the crowd in birthday cake (yes, legit birthday cake), then gives them a champagne shower (yes, with actual bubbly), and crowd surfs on actual inflatable boats. Steven Hiroyuki Aoki, better known as Steve Aoki, has been a DJ for quite some time now. The 38 year old has definitely perfected his craft. Steve’s well known for his own tracks, as well as his many collab’s and remixes. He collab’d with Kid Cudi for his remix of “Pursuit of Happiness”, that was featured in the movie Project X. He remixed Drake’s “Forever”. He collab’d with Will.I.Am for “I’m in the House”, which was a hit with MTV’s reality series Jersey Shore. Aoki has also worked with Diplo, Tiesto, The All American Rejects, and Bassnectar…just to name a few. Steve founded his own label, Dim Mak, back in 1996 and named it after his idol Bruce Lee. Dim Mak is the home for Aoki, as well as many additional artists such as MSTRKRFT, Bloody Beetroots, Bloc Party, and more. Netflix came out with the documentary “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” based on Steve Aoki, and it’s literally his life motto. He has a ‘can’t stop won’t stop’ attitude, and it’s rooted from his father. The documentary follows Steve, and shows us how crazy his life truly is. Steve Aoki has released several albums over his career, with the most notable being Wonderland, and recent 2 part Neon Future series. Wonderland was released in 2012 and features were stacked with Kid Cudi, LMFAO, Travis Barker, Will.I.Am, etc. It’s the album that Steve blew up off of. Neon Future l was released in 2014, and Neon Future ll in 2015. Notable features include Waka, Snoop, Kid Ink, MGK, Flux, and Will.I.Am.

Symere Woods, better known as Lil Uzi Vert, is a 22 year old trap-rapper out of Philly. He’s been rapping since 2014, and was first noticed with his feature on Carnage’s “WDYW”. Uzi’s solo hype recently skyrocketed with his Luv is Rage mixtape and hit single, “Money Longer”.

Uzi’s fresh to the rap game, and has already been recognized as an artist to watch by Complex, XXL, Noisey, Rolling Stone, and Spin, just to name a few. Uzi’s inspired by A$AP Mob, Mike Jones, The Ying Yang Twins, Wiz, and….Marilyn Manson? Yes, Marilyn Manson. Uzi jumped on that bandwagon during his “rockstar phase” at 13. Manson influenced Uzi’s style, and Uzi views him as “one of the most intelligent people I ever saw in my life”.

Machinedrum – “Tell U” (Ft. Rochelle Jordan)

Machine Drum Tell You

Machinedrum’s Travis Stewart has released a new energetic radiant track titled “Tell U” ahead of his forthcoming album Human Energy, which is supposed to be released this Friday. The song features rising Canadian songstress Rochelle Jordan who adds a quick-paced but soothing element to the track. This song definitely stands out and should be included on any playlists you might be preparing for the fall!

“This track is an example of how I took a homie’s vocal that they sent me in the past and reused it in a different context, just like ‘Do It 4 U,'” Stewart said. “I took a sampling approach to Rochelle’s a-cappella and recontextualized her lyrics in the same way I would with an old 90s R&B a-cappella in some of my older tracks” — and it’s absolutely euphoria-inducing.” – MACHINEDRUM

When recording the album Human Energy, Machinedrum secluded himself for three months after proposing to his girlfriend and moving to Los Angeles. Human Energy is expected to be 15 tracks in total and Machinedrum says his album Human Energy is “healing music.”

Machinedrum will also be making two Texas stops on his upcoming fall tour:

11/4 – Austin – Grizzly Hall
11/5 – Dallas – RBC
