Oddisee Orders A Reality Check With “Like Really” Single

Iceberg is the title for the upcoming album from artist/producer Oddisee. Fans got a taste of the album from the previous single “Things” back in December and today the DC native delivers “Like Really”, a reality record that is oh so relevant considering America’s corrosive political climate at the moment. There are some pretty obvious antidotes on this song…

“How do you police the streets of a neighborhood you do not engage in/Why a brother get three for a sack while your brother go free for a raping…”

Oddisee is also embarking on his “Beneath The Surface” Tour which has three Texas dates.

April 26 – Houston, TX – Fitzgerald’s
April 27 – Dallas, TX – Dada Dallas
April 28 – Austin, TX – Empire Control Room

OG Maco Preps Us For “Children Of The Rage” LP With “God Willin” Single

Aside from a car accident that left him with an eye injury, we haven’t heard much from Atlanta artist OG Maco. He released nearly a dozen projects over the last two years but none have returned him to the viral mega status that was achieved with his “U Guessed It” hit. In an interview with Billboard he acknowledges the merit of his biggest hit, but also contends that he’s made more recent music that is better than his peers…

“…I mean, “U Guessed It” has done some amazing things, and all that shit, but I’ve made music that is definitely better than the majority of my peers for the last year, and then on top of that I’ve made it consistently. And that’s not any form of cockiness, that’s just an appreciation of where I’m at.”

“God Willin” is Maco’s newest contribution to this sentiment and it’s not a bad lead up to his Children Of The Rage LP that should come this year. The record is produced by Bob Dylan’s grandson Pablo Dylan and should excite fans for new music from Maco.

B.o.B Teams With Cyhi The Prynce For Politically Charged “Scary” Single

Atlanta has a spectrum of successful artist that is unlike most cities. You have conscious rappers like Andre 3k, street stars like Jeezy, new wave wonders like Lil Yachty and the list goes on. There’s also a special prototype artist of sorts that combines all three of the aforementioned characteristics.

These artists definitely have a street edge, but also rap as well as your favorite bar slinger. They have the vivacity of the youth with a touch of experience. B.o.B and Cyhi The Prynce both fit this hybrid of artist and today we get a record with both of them on it.

“Scary” is a social commentary on the overwhelming police harassment issue facing America. The beat alone sounds more like a club banger though so the listener is sort of tricked into nodding their head to the message. They have essentially put the medicine in the candy, if you will.

Chevy Woods – “Forever” [Video]

Taylor Gang’s Chevy Woods has dropped a video for “Forever” directed by LOUIEKNOWS off his last mixtape called “Gang Shit Only.” According to XXL,  Chevy says that “most of his videos have been shot on the block back in Pittsburgh with the homies, smoking weed, showing guns, but his recent move to L.A., his life took a transition and he  wanted to show that he’s not in the inner city anymore.”

This video drops ahead of his debut album titled Taylor’d that is expected to drop later this year.

SZA Names New ‘CTRL’ Album, Debuts Single “Drew Barrymore”

Top Dawg Entertainment‘s Goddess, SZA, made her network television debut on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show tonight (January 13th). After confirming her forthcoming album, ‘CTRL’ and debuting some of that new-new, including a collaboration with Travis Scott, “Love Galore,” at an intimate listening party in New York earlier this week, SZA has gifted with us a preview of what is to come with her new single, “Drew Barrymore.” The TDE Songstress performed the single on Jimmy Kimmel, just minutes after the track surfaced on Apple Music.

Produced by Scum and Carter Lang, the 26 year-old describes the track as “black grunge,” touching the harsh and crippling reality of her depression and struggles of low self-esteem. “I get so lonely I forget what I’m worth / We get so lonely we pretend that it’s worse / I’m so ashamed of myself think I need therapy,” she sings. “I’m sorry I’m not more attractive/I’m sorry I’m not more ladylike / I’m sorry I don’t shave my legs at night.”

The forthcoming album just may be her last as a tweet from this past October reveals, “I actually quit. @iamstillpunch can release my album if he ever feels like it. Y’all be blessed.” She deleted the message several hours after sending it. However, that left us all wondering, is this last we’ll get from the Millennial RnB Queen?

She later follows up and clarifies her relationship with TDE, insisting that rumors of a breach were amplified, “Me and Punch never get along—that’s every day,” she says. “They call me one of the homies. We’re all different, and that was hard to understand because they’re tough-love people and hard to read, but I dig it now. I don’t have any issues with my label. My label has been nothing but supportive of everything I’ve wanted to do.” After being asked about quitting music, the artist simply trails off and expresses that she doesn’t “have the energy to create a filter anymore.” Touching on the fact that she is burnt out.

SZA tells Complex: “My life has just been falling the fuck apart. I buried, like, three ex-boyfriends, my granny died, I buried someone two days ago… I’m devastated by the state of the world and the hatred.”

“Some days I feel militant and vengeful,” she continues. “Some days I feel defeated and I actually cry because I just don’t understand. Then you start getting biblical, like, ‘Why is this happening to my people?’ Then you go through, ‘It’s never going to change, so might as well just go with the flow.’ And then you go through, ‘No. I’m not asking anymore. I’m going to make it change.’”

We anxiously await the remainder of the magic that is to come that TDE’s head, Punch describes as “raw.” Peep the new single below on Apple Music.

Sampha – “(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano” [Video]

samphaIf you’re like me, Drake’s 2013 “Too Much” single was the first time you heard of London based crooner Sampha. The record was a great heartfelt introduction for the British born singer and led many to dive into his own original work. Since then he has gone to collaborate with Kanye West, Frank Ocean and others as he preps for his own debut album Process.

Today we receive the video for a song from that album. NOKMLTP is a sullen tribute to the piano that sat in Sampha’s childhood home. He lost his mother while he was making this album, and you can definitely hear the sorrow as he reminisces.

SZA Teases “Love Galore” (feat. Travis Scott)

It’s been a minute since we’ve been gifted with new music from SZA. She dropped her last project, Z, in 2014. There’s been a lot of back and fourth for her upcoming album, and at one point it seemed like she quit TDE, but here we are today.

This evening SZA confirmed that we will, indeed, be getting a new album from her this year, A. Rolling Stone is already referring to it as being one of the “most highly anticipated albums of this year”, and I agree.

SZA also debuted a few new tracks last night, one of which surfaced the internet featuring La Flame. According to Billboard, the track is “Love Galore”. Peep the snippets below, and stay on the lookout for details for A.
