Lance Skiiiwalker – “Could It Be” (video)

LS_CIB

It seems like Skiiiwalker is shedding his reclusive ways. After dropping “Speed” on SoundCloud last week, TDE’s new recruit gave the public “Could It Be,” where he tries to catch the attention of a sweet-lookin’ girl, to no avail. When all else fails, he takes a page out of the infamous fairytale and feeds her a poisoned apple. After that, it’s anyone’s guess what he wants with her. Check out the clip below.

Lance Skiiiwalker – “Speed” (audio)

Little is known about the latest TDE recruit, Lance Skiiiwalker. His name has popped up on various Top Dawg projects, most recently on Jay Rock’s 90059. With subtle marketing here and there, Top Dawg has gradually introduced the young MC to the public. Following a press release announcing that the label officially signed Skiiiwalker, he has now given us a taste of his own creative flow. Listen to “Speed” below, and stay tuned for a full drop from the newest Dawg.

SZA – “twoAM” (audio)

sza-two-am-cover

Top Dawg’s reigning songstress SZA flipped Drake and PND’s “Come and See Me” into a sultry serenade of her own. Echoing the chorus, she works through the pangs of being a side piece, even though she can’t get enough vitamin D. Listening to “twoAM” at 2 a.m. is its own experience, but even if you can’t stay up that late, her beautiful voice commands attention any time.

Samaria ft. Kehlani – “Love Me Crazy” (audio)

image1-4_abevfl

Samaria and Kehlani put all of their feelings into a emotionally charged anthem to get all of those nasty post-breakup thoughts out. They tell a story we all know and love/hate: hating your ex after a split, then the next minute thinking about all the good things you had together, and cycling back to the hurtful rage all over again. Given Kehlani’s recent brush with death, it’s reassuring to see her channeling all of the negative vibes into something that she actually loves. Listen below.

ScHoolboy Q ft Kanye West – “THat Part” (audio)

schoolboy-q-that-part-cover-art_xasbsi

Top Dawg posted a tentative schedule of TDE’s releases for 2016 back in February, and they’ve kept their word since.

Side note- the “get Top on the phone” note next to Kendrick’s name is pure genius, with his surprise untitled unmastered dropping just a week after the post. Bravo, gentlemen.

Shit about to get nasty real soon… I told y’all I got y’all in 2016 #TDE

ScHoolboy Q and Kanye West teamed up for “THat Part,” a slow but hard-hitting cut that should keep fans appeased until Q’s new album release later this year. Even Yeezy’s yelling to get Top on the phone! Currently the track is only available on Apple Music.

Kaytranada – “Lite Spots” (video)

Kaytranada’s 99.9% has some pretty jumpin’ cuts on it, as we heard on “Glowed Up” with Anderson .Paak and “Bus Driver.” Since its release last week, it’s gotten glowing reviews, pun definitely intended.

Today, he’s released a new video for “Lite Spots,” a funky jam with some nostalgic instrumental sounds blurred in here and there. In the video, Kaytranadad brings a b-boy robot to life and takes him all over L.A. to learn new moves from his friends, strangers on the beach, and a little girl at the bus stop. The boogie bot proves that no matter where or who or even what you are, music and dance are the universal languages of expression, and they can be learned with an open mind. Check out the video below.

Chance the Rapper debuts “Blessings” (video)

13166004_1006571446101586_3585952806703730262_n

The music world has been geeking out since Chance the Rapper FINALLY announced his third project drop, Chance 3. On May 13th he’ll release the mixtape, a little over three years since Acid Rap. That’s not to say he’s been quiet. Chance has brought his light to many collaborations, most recently on Kanye’s “Ultralight Beam” from The Life of Pablo.

Last night, Chano, Jamilah Woods, and Byron Cage performed “Blessings” on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. In a word, the song is tangible. His uplifting messages of gratitude, humility and pure love are so relatable it almost hurts! The energy is so infectious, even if you’re not spiritual or religious. Check the performance out below.

Royce Da 5’9″‘s “Layers” Bumps “Anti” from #1

cover1200x1200

Victory is sweet for Royce, whose Layers took Anti’s spot on the top of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Layers debuted on April 15th, and sold over 16,000 copies in it’s first week.

Royce’s album is intensely biographical, with powerful anecdotes about his son being born while his grandmother passed, meeting Marshall Mathers for the first time, and the general nonsense that he deals with as an artist. He’s very vocal about his recovery from his alcohol addiction, almost as vocal as he is about how damn untouchable he is with those bars. The title track has Pusha T and Rick Ross on it, making it the first attention-grabbing joint on the album. Don’t skip through the rest of the album, though. The Detroit rapper features a lot of hometown talent, and you won’t want to miss it. You can get Layers on iTunes now.

Congrats, Royce!

Kali Uchis ft Steve Lacy & Vince Staples – “Only Girl” (video)

Kali-Uchis-Only-Girl-640x640

The visuals for “Only Girl” are as dreamy as the harmonizing vocals of Steve Lacy and Kali Uchis together. Paired with her trademark pastel color scheme and delightfully gaudy trimmings, it leaves no doubt that Kali is the only girl you’d want. When Vince Staples rolls up in a red classic whip to a troupe of Kali knock-offs, his face tells us exactly that. Check it out below.
