LA Rapper/Singer Anderson .Paak has dropped some new funky heat with BJ The Chicago Kid. Anderson .Paak gained alot of exposure in 2015 with his new music and contributions to Dr. Dre‘s Compton. His lyrical skill and soulful vocals showcase the gospel elements within hip hop. The LA rapper has just released a new album entitled Malibu. Malibu features some pretty heavy hitting features including BJ The Chicago Kid‘s contribution on “The Waters”. This track’s groovy bass line is enough to have anyone bobbing their head, but BJ’s additional vocals add soul to compliment .Paak’s funk. BJ’s background crooning sets the overall mood for this “ghetto gospel”. You can listen to “The Waters” below.
BJ The Chicago Kid makes a pretty compelling plea for the job of pleasing his lady in this cut with Big K.R.I.T. As he works the vintage microphone and tries to sing his way into a sweet gig on an even sweeter melody, BJ lays out his resume to a sexy lady in the shadows. The song will be featured on BJ’s forthcoming album, In My Mind, which has no official release date yet.
BJ the Chicago Kid stopped by Hot 97 for an interview, but what ended up happening was one of the station’s usual random chats. Everything was covered from the White Sox to working with Dr. Dre to BJ’s Grammy nomination for “Studio” to his preference for… freshly grated cheese. We DID get an album title; In My Mind drops next year. Although this wasn’t the typical interview, you can watch below to get inside the head of one of the most talented soul singers in today’s music. Watch the clip below.
