After months of hype, Major Lazer has finally released the collaboration with PartyNextDoor and Nicki Minaj titled “Run Up.” The song definitely plays on Diplo’s like for the dancehall sound and is a certified banger. According to Complex, “Run Up” is expected to be on Major Lazer’s upcoming fourth studio album, Music Is the Weapon.”
And while visiting Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show last summer, Diplo let us know some of the artists’ who might be featured on the album.
“Definitely we have Usher on it. [“Lean On” collaborator] MØ’s back on songs,” he said. “We have a song with Sam Hunt which is very unusual, but I love him. Travis Scott. I don’t even know; I have to go back…Sia is on a couple ideas, but one of the records might be her record. She’s definitely background vocals on a song.”
Nicki Minaj has taken to Instagram to announce her remix to the number one record in the country, and while it’s a lot to digest she insists that her motive for doing it is to celebrate the records success. She expressed her excitement for Rae Sremmurd & Mike Will in saying…
“Cuz 2 Lil black kids got the NUMBER 1 RECORD IN THE COUNTRY & I’m soooooo happy for Mike Will…”
During the three minute record she also speaks openly about her political opinion of president elect Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
“…Island girl, Donald Trump want me to go home. Still pull up with my wrist looking like a snow cone.”
There’s not much you can say about DJ Khaled that isn’t already tirelessly articulated by the man himself. His albums are usually preceded by a slew of chart topping records and a barrage of creative marketing that’s always entertaining to watch — Major Key is no exception to this.
With fourteen records total and three singles that were summer anthems, this is arguably the best of Khaled’s nine studio albums. Features include Jay Z, J.Cole, Nicki Minaj, Future, Travis $cott, Chris Brown and Drake just to scratch the surface. In an interview with ABC he said “…this is my biggest album…it represents my fans and my connection with them inspired me to make it.”
It seemed like the queen of rap already had it all. An upcoming game, true love and the hottest hip-hop tour of the summer. But it didn’t stop there. Today ABC Family announced that Nicki Minaj will be producing a comedy hosted on their channel. She’s not only producing it, but starring in the half-hour series that will be based on of her life in Queens. The single-camera show will start production this winter. If you’re not kind of freaking out, please see yourself to the door.
Of course we can’t talk about last night without addressing the moment Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus on stage for some things Cyrus said to the New York Times last week. After accepting her award for Best Hip Hop Video, Nicki turned to Miley calling her out for the slander. The world momentarily stopped.
As if the night couldn’t get any better, Kanye accepted his Video Vanguard award, presented by Taylor Swift, and proceeded to give an inspiring speech. In the speech West covered a lot, but one main take away was West calling out MTV for their corporate shenanigans related to the award show. At the end of the speech Kanye announced his decision to run for president in 2020. The internet exploded, and the importance of this year’s election became void as we all prepare ourselves to volunteer on the West 2020 campaign. The bad news? Still no word on his next album release.
Sometimes the universe gives us things we don’t even know we need. In this case, the universe said Nicki Minaj needs a video game — and it’s right. Glu, the creators of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, announced that they are working to make a game based on the Queen of Rap herself. The game is currently expected to release sometime in 2016.
We can only hope that the game includes some of the superstar’s everyday tasks, like dealing with boy beef, deciding which wig to purchase and starting a fragrance line. The game should be as wonderful as Kim K’s, if not even better. Read more details about the game here.
