The Internet stopped when Rihanna released her latest song “Work” as the first single to her latest album Anti. Today she finally gave us a video. Scratch that. She gave us two videos. The Director X video was up first, set at The Real Jerk, a place where wining is king and everyone is sweaty, but Drake is somehow comfortable in a sweatshirt. Rih Rih definitely paid tribute to her island roots in this clip. Next came the Tim Erem-directed portion in a small room, with just Rihanna and Drake, who mostly sits down until it’s time for him to rap and do his “Hotline Bling”-esque hand gestures. Who designated Drake as the man to get danced on by beautiful A-list women in their videos? He’s one lucky man. Watch the videos below.
Of course we can’t talk about last night without addressing the moment Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus on stage for some things Cyrus said to the New York Times last week. After accepting her award for Best Hip Hop Video, Nicki turned to Miley calling her out for the slander. The world momentarily stopped.
As if the night couldn’t get any better, Kanye accepted his Video Vanguard award, presented by Taylor Swift, and proceeded to give an inspiring speech. In the speech West covered a lot, but one main take away was West calling out MTV for their corporate shenanigans related to the award show. At the end of the speech Kanye announced his decision to run for president in 2020. The internet exploded, and the importance of this year’s election became void as we all prepare ourselves to volunteer on the West 2020 campaign. The bad news? Still no word on his next album release.
