Victory is sweet for Royce, whose Layers took Anti’s spot on the top of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Layers debuted on April 15th, and sold over 16,000 copies in it’s first week.
Royce’s album is intensely biographical, with powerful anecdotes about his son being born while his grandmother passed, meeting Marshall Mathers for the first time, and the general nonsense that he deals with as an artist. He’s very vocal about his recovery from his alcohol addiction, almost as vocal as he is about how damn untouchable he is with those bars. The title track has Pusha T and Rick Ross on it, making it the first attention-grabbing joint on the album. Don’t skip through the rest of the album, though. The Detroit rapper features a lot of hometown talent, and you won’t want to miss it. You can get Layers on iTunes now.
Congrats, Royce!
