The 9th annual XXL Freshman Issue dropped this week featuring some of the freshest, most poppin’, rising artists in the genre. ScoreMore alum like Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Yachty made the cover among other artists killing the game like Desiigner and Anderson .Paak. Still the cover isn’t a favorite among readers. While some don’t understand how one hit stars like Desiigner or comedy rapper Lil Dick made their way to the cover, the biggest critique is the lack of female faces in the group. This isn’t from a lack of options. Women in hip hop are killing 2016 — whether it’s NYC natives like DonMonique, Chi town repping Noname or the plethora of dope girls reppin’ the Awful Records crew based out of Atlanta.
