In the past couple of weeks, Jigga has gotten a lot of heat about TIDAL. Over the weekend, he took to Twitter to defend every facet he could in the 140-character limit. Since his posts on the social outlet are few and far between, his “stream of consciousness” made a lot of noise. TIDAL, a streaming service much like iTunes and Spotify, has two subscriptions: Premium and HiFi. Each has a monthly fee that’s rather hefty considering its’ competitors prices. Jay-Z refuses to back down from his project, though. Three days after his cool and collected rant, he announced a B-Sides concert to stream exclusively on TIDAL. He will be performing songs that either he’s never played live, or that he hasn’t rolled out in over a decade. On top of that, he’s created a contest for his subscribers to get tickets to the intimate show. Contestants can create playlists with the hashtag #TIDALXJAYZ. As far as business tactics go, Jay is playing this as smoothly as he possibly can. It’s not unusual for start-ups see a few hiccups at the beginning, but when they blow up, they blow UP. His entrepreneurial ventures have always been nothing short of ground-breaking. As this one unfolds, it’ll be interesting to see what other exclusive features are introduced to make it more enticing to hesitant subscribers.
