A$AP Yams, founder of the A$AP Mob, has reportedly passed away. He was 26 years old.
A$AP Yams founded the A$AP Mob in 2007 in Harlem, with A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz. Yams took a then unique approach to getting a buzz: he started a Tumblr account. There, he included the rest of the then unknown A$AP Mob’s music, pictures of ’90s rappers, and blog posts. A$AP Yams gained a lot of followers on his Tumblr which contributed to the huge buzz of the A$AP Mob. In 2011, Rocky’s “Peso” was on all underground hip-hop fans’ minds, and by 2013, his had a number one debut album on the Billboard chart. The huge success of Rocky and the rest of the A$AP Mob can be traced back to the promotional genius of Yams.
Several friends have gathered on the Internet to say goodbye to A$AP Yams. Peep some sincere tributes from Bun B, Drake, and of course, A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg below.
