G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean, Travis Scott, & Kanye West all drop new tracks on NYE

Big-Sean-Kanye-West-Travis-Scott-

To say the 2015-2016 NYE was “good” would be a very grand understatement given the release of a few new tracks from some of these greats. To start off the year, we were given a Big Sean track to reflect on 2015 featuring Pharell & Detail titled “What a Year”, followed by 2 new tracks from La Flame Travis Scott’s “A-Team” & “Wonderful” featuring none other than The Weeknd, that originally premiered in Seattle during the fall of 2015 with snippets running rampant til its release. Last, but surely not least, a single tweet earlier that night from Mrs. Kim Kardashian-West had the internet buzzing over her tweeting “YEEZY, YEEZY, YEEZY, NEW SONG ABOUT TO DROP #FACTS”, only a few hours later the ball dropped as Kanye West released his controversial track “Facts” to ring in 2016. Taking shots at Nike, celebrating his record-breaking Addidas Yeezy line numbers & “Jumpin’ over Jumpman” he goes off on the track. We can only hope this is the first of what’s to come from Sean Don, La Flame, Ye, and the rest of the G.O.O.D. Music family for 2016. Bump all the tracks below.

The Weeknd-In the Night [Video]

Weeknd Beauty Behind the Madness

If you’re a fan of The Weeknd, you know that he isn’t a stranger to darker aesthetics & the video release of “In the Night” off of his recent Grammy-nominated Beauty Behind the Madness is no exception. Directed by BRTHR FILMS, we’re taken on 80’s nostalgic & action-packed cinematic experience, artfully paired with Abel’s haunting vocals. Enjoy.

2016 Grammy Nominations

Nominees

Feel sorry for anyone who tried to release a new single/project today; today’s buzz was all about the Grammy nominations. Particularly because of recent upsets in rap categories (Macklemore over Kendrick, Iggy even being nominated, etc.) rap fans have been on edge for the past couple of years about nominations and winners. This year however, people seem generally pleased. Seemingly to make up for a past snub, although actually just because of a fantastic album, Kendrick Lamar leads everyone with a stunning 11 nominations. That’s not just in the rap categories; Kendrick has more nominations than any other artist this year, with Taylor Swift and The Weeknd unsurprisingly coming in next with 7 each.

Other notable nominees include Flying Lotus (of course featuring Kendrick Lamar) for Best Dance Recording with “Never Catch Me,” and Kehlani and The Internet, each with nominations for best Urban Contemporary album. Kehlani’s nom is especially impressive considering the fact that You Should Be Here is technically a mixtape. Hiatus Kaiyote (!), Jeremih, and of course The Weeknd stand out in the Best R&B Performance category, and everything you’d expect to appear in the rap categories is pretty much covered. One surprise is Drake’s “Back To Back” for Best Rap Performance, which felt like just an Internet-hyped diss track. Apparently the Academy felt differently. Perhaps the most difficult category for hip-hop fans is Best Rap Album. We don’t talk enough about how incredible this year was for rap music. Forest Hills Drive. IYRTITL. To Pimp A Butterfly got rave reviews from pretty much every publication. Anything Nicki Minaj spits is fire. And a Dr. Dre comeback after 15 years?! Much deserved for every artist nominated, and it’s going to be a tough one. Let’s just hope that unlike last year, the rap categories are televised. These artists have had way too much of an impact on 2015 to not be recognized. Check the rest of the nominees here. The Grammy Awards will be held on February 15th, 2016.

The Weeknd – Tell Your Friends (Drake Remix)

Over the weekend, Drake gave us his spin on The Weeknd’s track “Tell Your Friends,” a song off The Weeknd’s latest album Beauty Behind the Madness. It’s not so much a remix, as it is Drake just using the instrumental from the original song for his 16 bars and some singing. The freestyle shows Drake keeping up with his habit of hopping on someone else’s wave. Still, after listening you can’t help but want to evolve…take a listen.

VMAs Leave Audience Confused, Inspired, and Disgusted

nicki-minaj-award-mtv-vma-2015-show-billboard-650

The VMAs were not completely awful. The Weeknd put on a fire performance (literally), Nicki Minaj won Best Hip Hop Video, Fetty Wap got Best New Artist, and even ASAP Rocky hit the stage.

Of course we can’t talk about last night without addressing the moment Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus on stage for some things Cyrus said to the New York Times last week. After accepting her award for Best Hip Hop Video, Nicki turned to Miley calling her out for the slander. The world momentarily stopped.

As if the night couldn’t get any better, Kanye accepted his Video Vanguard award, presented by Taylor Swift, and proceeded to give an inspiring speech. In the speech West covered a lot, but one main take away was West calling out MTV for their corporate shenanigans related to the award show. At the end of the speech Kanye announced his decision to run for president in 2020. The internet exploded, and the importance of this year’s election became void as we all prepare ourselves to volunteer on the West 2020 campaign. The bad news? Still no word on his next album release.

Get More:

The night ended with Miley Cyrus giving her own performance. After being called out by Nicki and a few other missteps, the audience (AKA all of Twitter) was very done with its hostess. Still, she surprised everyone by dropping a free 23-track album titled Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Pets.

If you missed the hot mess that was the 2015 VMAs, don’t worry. Chance The Rapper and Rihanna were not even there.

#vmas are on tonight. Me and @badgalriri will NOT be in attendance 🚫🏆

With Beauty Behind the Madness due out on Friday the 28th, The Weeknd is creating more buzz by releasing a joint video for two songs off the album. As the counterpart visual to the single of the summer “Can”t Feel My Face,” the mix of emotions and power of the songs makes it impossible to look away from the violence on screen. As “Tell casino Your Friends” segues into “Real Life,” the drama of the mini-movie falls into a smooth getaway. The soundtrack suggests that the album has echoes of his Trilogy vibes with more evolved production and an impressive roster of collaborators. In addition to announcing his forthcoming tour, Abel has his fans sitting at the edge of their seats as they watch this video.

The Weeknd Models Kanye’s Line in GQ

Toronto-native, The Weeknd opened up to GQ in an interview a week before the debut of his album Beauty Behind the Madness.  “Can’t Feel My Face” is arguably the hottest song of the summer, and in this fall issue he is fanning the flames by sporting Kanye West’s own collection with Adidas. This isn’t 25-year-old Abel Tesfaye’s first venture into the fashion world, but it’s so far the best. In the interview he talks about his upcoming album, working with other artists and Kanye’s clothing. Peep the pics and the interview on GQ’s site.
